Faculty Development Program on Empowering Excellence: Understanding the Revised Binary Accreditation held at KCW

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a Faculty Development Program on Empowering Excellence: Understanding the Revised Binary Accreditation in the college on September 23rd, 2024. The Program was oriented to bring insights on the revised NAAC Binary Accreditation.

Dr. Khushvinder Kumar, Principal, Khalsa College of Education, Amritsar was the resource person of the event. He deliberated upon the varied aspects of Revised NAAC Binary Accreditation drawing comparisons between the previous framework. He apprised the faculty that the revised framework aims to create a culture of quality and excellence in higher education while also encouraging institutional participation at all levels in terms of quality, strength and performance. He further shared that the revised framework has 10 attributes having 44 matrices for affiliated colleges. He informed that the new framework also emphasizes upon the integration of skills with all disciplines such as humanities and social sciences. Further the options for taking up old assessment framework and revised were discussed. The session concluded with an interactive session wherein the queries of the faculty were effectively answered.

The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of the IQAC team for organizing an informative and enriching session on the revised NAAC Accreditation system.

International Day of Peace Marked at KCW

The Sociology Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated International Day of Peace in sync with the theme proposed by UNESCO for 2024, cultivating the culture of peace. The students were sensitized on the importance of power of peace and were encouraged to be living expression of peace and harmony. The activity made its way to the social platforms in the form of a documentary shared in the students’ groups.  While it enlightened the students on peace it also emphasized on the role of social platforms potentially significant in playing a key role in stimulating a positive change in society. The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of Mrs. Harveen, Head of Sociology Department and the entire department for the initiative

Botanical Society, Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines Ludhiana organized an exposure visit to Vardhman Miyawaki forest located at focal point ludhiana.

This visit provided an insightful opportunity for B.Sc medical students to explore the indigenous species of trees  Mr. Manoj Mehta(Sr. VP HR) , Mr.Harnek Singh (manager) , Mr.Nabendu Sharma under the guidance of Mr. Amit Dhawan( SR & Sr. manager Admn/compliance )held informative interactions with students regarding Japanese technique of creating diverse and multilayered forest . This method is used worldwide for urban afforestation as these forests are quick to establish,maintenance free after one to three years.

It was the thrilled journey through trails of the forest which consists of sixty thousand trees of native species.

Principal Dr.( Mrs.)Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of Department of Botany for organizing such an informative visit which would definitely enlighten the students regarding viable solutions for climate resilience in future.

“Unraveling New Criminal Laws and Insights on Crime Prevention Techniques” at KCW Ludhiana

Legal Literacy Club of Khalsa College for Women, organized an extension Lecture on the topic “Unraveling New Criminal Laws and Insights on Crime Prevention Techniques” on 20th September 2024. Dr Varinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, School of Law, Lovely Professional University, was the Resource person of the day. The guest lecture aims to bring forth the salient features of the recent developments in criminal law and their far-reaching implications. India’s new criminal laws, which came into effect on July 1, 2024, were passed to modernize the country’s legal system and address contemporary issues. Dr. Varinder Kaur discussed the amendments of Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act (IEA), which are replaced by Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), respectively. She highlighted 20 new offences which have been added in the BNS and stressed upon the petty criminal offences where punishment of the imprisonment has been increased. The objective of the interaction is to enlighten students about the latest criminal legislation so they can grow up to be responsible and informed citizens of the nation. Principal Dr. (Mrs) Kamaljeet Grewal appreciated the efforts done by Legal Literacy club and emphasized that women need to be aware of their legal rights now more than ever.

NCC Cadet of KCW attended All India Thal Sainik Camp 2024

Participation in Thal Sainik Camp is a matter of pride for every participant.  NCC Cadets dream of being a part of this All India camp conducted at New Delhi every year. This dream came true for an NCC Cadet of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. After rigorous camp selection process UO Aabha, a B.A.3rd year student was selected to be part of this camp which held from 2nd to 13th September 2024. The college cadet set the milestone as she was shortlisted after multiple Pre-TSC camps and finally become part of TSC 2024.

Aabha is a student of B.A. III in the college. She went through multiple selection camps and was finally shortlisted for Delhi in the month of August. Cadet bagged various prizes for her achievements during numerous selection camps. She got silver medal in Judging distance and field signals in final AITSC Delhi. She also received cash prize as appreciation from ADG Major General Manjeet Singh Mokha Sena Medal. The cadet narrated that the entire TSC journey has made her stronger and increased her potential to deal with challenges of life.    

College Director Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. (Mrs) Kamaljit Kaur Grewal appreciated the efforts of Aabha and NCC Department of college. Principal Mam motivated other young cadets and said that Aabha is the torch bearer for other college students and NCC Cadets. She added that Aabha will be (for sure) successful in her life as she has understood the importance of hard work and dedication at such a young age. Madam motivated her to continue with the same spirit and enthusiasm in other fields as well.

Hostel Night Celebrations

Providing the students with a platform to mingle with their peers hostel night celebrations were organized by Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. Students participated in various cultural activities to mark celebrations. Members of College Management Sardarni Kushal Dhillon, Sardarni Manmeet Grewal along with Director Dr. Mukti Gill were the chief guests of the evening. The retired professors graced the event as Judges of the show. Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Physical Education Department,  Mrs. Sarvjit, Political Science Department and Mrs.  Simarjeet Grewal, Department of Hindi adjudged the show. Students mesmerised the audience with their thrilling performances through dances, songs, group dances and Giddha. Beautiful divas walked the ramp with oomph and grace.

World Ozone Day on 16th September, 2024

The Department of Chemistry, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated the World Ozone Day on 16th September, 2024 by organizing a powerpoint presentation competition in which students from B.Sc. I, II and III displayed their presentations under the theme “World Ozone Day: Montreal Protocol-Advancing Climate Actions”. The students highlighted the importance of the existence of the ozone layer that is safeguarding all living beings by filtering out the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiations. Further, the focus is given on the alarming risk to ozone layer by human-made chemicals such as CFCs and at the end students have thrown light on the initiative of United Nations through Montreal Protocol to phase out these chemicals with some better alternatives. The judges Mrs. Mandeep Kaur (Department of Computer Applications) and Ms. Kulwinder Kaur (Department of Geography) recognized the hard work of the students and awarded them with the prizes. Satya from B.Sc. II secured first position, Kareena from B.Sc. II earned second prize, Gurmit Kaur  from B.Sc. I bagged third prize and Gunjan from B.Sc. I was awarded with the consolation prize. Principal Ma’am Dr. (Mrs.) Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of the students and the teachers of the department for participating so enthusiastically and spreading awareness for a better future. Convenor of the event Dr. Aanchal Arora appreciated the efforts of the participants and the organizing team to put in efforts for the organization of the successful event.

International Democracy Day(16-09-2024)

The Department of Political Science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, is pleased to announce the celebration of International Democracy Day on September 16, 2024.To commemorate this occasion, the department has organized  a Visual Information Session, highlighting the importance of democracy, its principles, and values. Students presented their research and ideas on various aspects of democracy, encouraging critical thinking and discussion. The event aims to promote democratic values, encourage active citizenship, and foster a deeper understanding of democratic principles among students and the community.

The key highlights of the event were student presentations on democratic principles and values, interactive discussions and Q&A sessions and expert insights from faculty members. Principal Dr. Kamaljit Kaur Grewal appreciated the efforts of the department and students, saying, “Democracy is the backbone of our nation, and it’s essential to educate and empower our youth about its values and principles. I commend the Department of Political Science for organizing this thought-provoking event.”

Hindi Divas celebrated at Khalsa College for Women

Hindi Sahitya Sabha of the Hindi Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated Hindi Divas with great fervour on 14th September 2024 in the college. On this occasion, the Principal, Dr. Kamaljit Grewal and Director Dr. Mukti Gill graced the event as chief guest. A calligraphy competition and synonym writing competition was organized among the students to mark the day.  About 80 students participated in the event. The students wrote calligraphy showing the importance of Hindi language and participated in this competition with great enthusiasm by writing as many synonyms as possible in the stipulated time.

Madam Mandeep Arora (Sanskrit Department) was the judge for this competition.  The results of the competition were as follows:  calligraphy competition: First Prize Roshni BA First Year, Second Prize, Sneha Kaushal BA Third Year and Third Prize Pooja Kumari BA Second Year.

The results of the synonym writing competition: First Prize Saloni BA Third Year, Second Prize Pooja BA Third Year, Third Prize Moni Kumari BA Third Year.

The college Principal Dr Kamaljit Grewal gave away the prizes to the winners.   While wishing the students a Happy Hindi Divas, She took an oath with the students that we should respect the Hindi language and try to take it forward. Praising the efforts of the Hindi department Head Dr. Kamini Sahir and teacher Dr Sonia Mala, she further added that we should keep organizing such events so that the students gain knowledge of their mother tongue and develop interest in it.

Extension Lecture held at KCW

The Department of Economics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana, in collaboration with LIC  organized an extension lecture on Exploring Career Opportunities in LIC, on September 13th, 2024 in the college.

Ms. Archana Sharma Vashishta, Chief Manager, LIC India and Parminder Singh Sapra Branch Manager LIC Of India were the resource persons of the event Mrs. Vashishta apprised the students about various opportunities in the field of insurance. She further added that LIC is a platform that offers opportunities for the youngsters to earn while learn holding positions of  Development officer, Assistant Branch manager and Branch manager . Mr. Sapra discussed the perks and benefits LIC career offers along with national, global recognition. Around 80 students attended the lecture.
