KCW NCC Department Celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’

‘International Women’s Day’ is a day dedicated to recognize the achievements, resilience and contributions of women worldwide. United Nations declared March 8th as International Women’s Day in 1977 to honour the role of women all around the world. To acknowledge the contribution of women, NCC Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an event on 6th March 2025 in collaboration with 3Pb Girls Bn NCC, under the stewardship of College Director Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill. College Principal Dr. (Mrs) Kamaljit Grewal and Capt (Dr. Paramjeet Kaur), Associate NCC Officer of the college. Around 140 NCC cadets, 9 NCC Alumni along with NCC PI staff became part of this event. The aim of the event was to spread awareness among young generations about the role of women in society and to promote gender equality through education.

NCC Cadets of the college Cadet Babli, Cadet Nikita Gupta, Cadet Pooja Tiwari, Cadet Sakshi, and Cadet Rajveer initiated their talk with the description on theme of this year’s Women’s Day i.e. Accelerate Action. The cadets covered the topics of importance of celebrating Women’s Day, why we celebrate this day, the unseen battle fought by women and the road ahead for women in the coming future. Cadets also described beautifully about various contributions of successful women leaders; roles played by women in Armed forces along with the role of NCC in empowering women. The presentation came to a conclusion with discussion on NCC cadets of the college who took part in national level camps such as Republic Day parade and Thal Sainik Camp during last 10 years and have set milestone for the upcoming cadets.

In the second phase of event, Rank cum Award ceremony was organized for cadets who have showcased excellent participation and leadership skills in the previous session. Final year NCC cadets were given the ranks by College Director and Principal madam. Deserving cadets were given awards to appreciate and celebrate their achievements and their contribution not just for being NCC cadets but also for transforming themselves into productive youth for the society. NCC alumni cadets were also given appreciation for being part of this motivational event. The event concluded with the patriotic NCC song and formal vote of thanks.

College Principal Dr (Mrs.) Kamaljit Garewal appreciated the efforts put in by NCC department. During her oration, she talked about the rights of women and their equal participation in various fields. She added that such activities fill positivity and optimism in the young minds, which is a need of the hour. Overall, the event was a successful endeavor to instil the feeling of pride among young girl cadets.

KCW Youth Red Cross Club and NSS Unit organized an Awareness Talk on Cervical Cancer and Vaccination

The NSS Unit and the Youth Red Cross Club of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an awareness talk on cervical cancer and vaccination on March 6, 2025 to mark the occasion of Women’s Day.  The objective was to sensitize students about cervical cancer and  raise awareness on the condition which is quite prevalent in the women of all age groups nowadays.

Dr. Ginny Gupta, President of Ludhiana Obstetrics and Gynecological Society (LOGS) along with Dr. Seema Kaushal., Cultural Secretary conducted a talk on the cervical cancer and apprise the students about the Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV), the most commonly transmitted viral infection of the reproductive tract, which poses a potential threat to women health as it causes various other cancers and diseases. They also deliberated on the prevention, treatment and cure of the disease as HPV is seen as a massive threat in India. She further highlighted various stages and the risk factors such as early marriage, weak immune system, multiple pregnancies, poor genital hygiene are some of the causes leading to the rise of cervical cancer among women. Dr. Ginny, while stressing upon the importance of screening tests also informed the students about the vaccination that can immune a human body from various other conditions. The experts further informed the students about the various vaccines available with the medical experts and encouraged the girls to take it at the earliest to avoid health complications in future.

The college Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the efforts of the NSS unit and Red Cross Club staff members for organizing an awareness session for students on cervical cancer awareness. She further encouraged the students to sensitize about the issue to the girls and women around them.

KCW Biotechnology Shines  in Panjab University Results

Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines, Ludhiana have proved their mettle in Panjab University 5th Semester examination held in December 2024. Navneet Kaur secured 5th position in the University by obtaining 451 marks out of 500 while Sukhmanpreet Kaur achieved 6th position by obtaining 450 marks out of 500. Overall result of the college is 100% with all the students passing in first division. The College Management, Director Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Kamaljit Grewal congratulated students and faculty members for their outstanding achievement and motivated them for future endeavours.

Two Day Book Fair organized at Khalsa College for Women Civil Lines Ludhiana

A two-day book fair was organized by the library committee of Khalsa College for
Women Civil Lines, Ludhiana. The fair started with a morning prayer wherein students were
informed about the importance of books. They were also encouraged to visit the book fair. Book
exhibition related to various subjects was organized by different book sellers in the main hall of the
college. The college Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal inaugurated the Fair.
Addressing the students on the occasion, College Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal highlighted the
importance of the book fair motivating them to enrich themselves through reading.
Dr. Narinderjit Kaur, Head, Post Graduate Punjabi Department, Dr. Prabhleen Toor, English
Department, Khushpreet Kaur, Librarian and entire library staff were present. College librarian
Khushpreet Kaur, while thanking everyone from the bottom of her heart, inspired the female students
to join the book culture in modern times.

Khalsa College for Women Legal Awareness Campaign concludeswith Empowering Rural Women

In the concluding series to the Legal awareness campaign , legal literacy Club members organized a visit to GTB National College, Mulanpur Dakha with the objective to empower rural women. Dr. Khushdip Kaur, coordinator of Legal Literacy Club deliberated on the importance of Legal literacy for Women. She also shared insights on the nuances of legal system and how women can seek help in case of need. The students Parneet, president of legal literacy Club and vice president of the club apprised the audience about Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place and also raised awareness on the ways to deal with it taking legal aid. Informative leaflets were also distributed towards the end of the session. Other members Jasleen and Naman presented a power point raising awareness on Cyber Security.
The club has successfully launched a series of legal awareness campaigns aimed at educating students and the wider community about important social issues such as child abuse, cybersecurity, and sexual harassment. The first event took place on January 30, 2025, at the college campus, where participants actively engaged in discussions and received informative pamphlets.
The second campaign in the same series was held on February 4, 2025, at Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School. This session concentrated on the ever-relevant issues of cybersecurity and sexual harassment in the workplace. Participants, including students and staff, received pamphlets outlining legal rights, preventive strategies, and the necessary steps to take if faced with such challenges.
The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal congratulated Dr. Khushdip Kaur, coordinator of Legal Literacy Club and appreciates the club’s dedication in spreading legal awareness and providing resources that allow students and the community to effectively navigate and address complex social issues.

‘A Nature Fest’ held at Khalsa College for Women,Civil Lines, Ludhiana

The Eco Club of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized A Nature Fest on March 03, 2025 celebrating the beauty and therapeutic features of nature while promoting dialogue on nature conservation. The initiative was taken in collaboration with SOCH (Society

for Conservation & Healing of Environment, Ludhiana) where in a workshop on Bonsai making and Dish Gardening were conducted. The guests of the day were extended a warm welcome by Director Dr. Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal on their arrival in the campus. Environmentalist and President of the organization Dr. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali, along with

Environmental Horticulturist and Secretary of SOCH Dr. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj graced the event. Best out of waste and poster making competitions were organized wherein students participated enthusiastically showcasing their skills and knowledge at nature conservation.

S. Gurmukh Singh conducted the workshop beginning with the art of Bonsai making. He apprised the students about the varied aspects of Bonsai plant such as designing and maintenance of the plant. Mrs. Sunaina Mittal showcased an array of beautifully carved models of dish garden while educating about the intricacies of creating a dish garden. She showed gardens in miniature forms and emphasized about how it adds beauty, serenity and value to the life an individual. A stall by Rav Agro and Organo lite was put up to educate the students on growing button and oyster mushrooms. The highlight of the event was the participation of various self help groups and entrepreneurs such as Farmative, 5- AB Agro, Zaika, Noor, Arooj, Golden Arrow Bee, Homemakers, Kitchen Queens and Guntaas displayed a huge variety of home made organic Products such as handicrafts, honey, pickles, oils and organic fertilizer generating awareness on the organic food and its benefits.

Students from PAU, Ludhiana participated under the Experiential Learning Program showcasing hand curated silicon moulds of beeswax. Photography exhibition was another interesting feature where a nature photography was at display from the collection of Assistant

Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon. The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal congratulated the

members of the Eco club for taking an initiative of raising awareness to enrich our lives through nature.

B.Sc-Non-Medical students excelled in various competitions held on National Science Day at L.P.U

National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28 th  February to commemorate the discovery of the
‘Raman Effect’ made by the eminent physicist Sir C.V. Raman. On National Science Day, theme
based science communication activities are carried out all over the country.
The School of Chemical Engineering and Physical Sciences of L.P.U. marked National Science Day
2025 on February 28th with an online ,offline and hybrid mode, aligning with this year’s theme,
“Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for a Developed India.”
The event focused on highlighting the crucial role of youth in driving scientific progress and
technological innovation in the nation.The program featured a compelling guest lecture titled “The
Role of Indian Youth in Shaping a Technologically Advanced Nation,” which explored the
contributions of young people to the country’s tech landscape and their potential to accelerate
progress in various scientific fields.Participants were actively engaged in a Science Quiz, which was
conducted in both online and offline formats, offering an exciting opportunity to test and enhance
their scientific knowledge.Riya Thakur,Taranpreet Kaur,Niharika Tayal from B.Sc-3(N.M.) got third
prize in science quiz.Additionally, the elocution competition, with the theme “Edu Revolution: Role
of AI in the Future of Education,” allowed students to share their thoughts on how artificial
intelligence could revolutionize education and shape future learning environments.Inayat sabharwal of
B.Sc –I(N.M) won the first prize in elocution.A standout feature of the event was the poster
presentation titled “Science and Innovation for a Developed India,” where students displayed their
innovative ideas and visions for a future driven by scientific advancements.The prize in this category
was clinched by Prisha Murghai of B.Sc-III(N.M). Students from various prestigious institutions,
including *Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, **SCD Govt. College for Boys, Ludhiana, and
*CBC Institute Nokodhar, along with students from several schools and colleges across Punjab,
participated enthusiastically in the event.The event saw the enthusiastic participation of over 100
students. It successfully underscored the vital role of India’s youth in scientific and technological
development, reinforcing their potential to lead the nation towards a brighter, technologically

National Science Day celebrations at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana

The National Science Day celebrations at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana,
commenced with an enlightening assembly where students were informed about the
significance of the day. The assembly focused on the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman
Effect by Dr. C.V. Raman in 1928, a remarkable achievement that not only earned him the
Nobel Prize but also made lasting contributions to the field of physics.
In recognition of the day, students actively participated in raising awareness about the
ongoing “Planet Parade”—a rare astronomical event where seven planets align in the sky.
During the assembly, students provided a brief history of planetary alignments and explained
the science behind why such events occur. They also encouraged their peers to step outside
and observe the alignment of these planets in the evening. Students were motivated to capture
this celestial phenomenon and share their experiences on instagram, inviting others to witness
the wonders of science.
As a symbolic gesture of awareness and participation, students proudly wore badges to mark
their involvement in the Planet Parade event. These badges were also distributed to teachers,
who were encouraged to join the students in observing the celestial event. The badges served
as a reminder of the collective curiosity, enthusiasm, and appreciation for science and
astronomy that the entire college community shared.
The event successfully promoted scientific inquiry and fostered a sense of wonder among
students, inspiring them to explore the mysteries of the universe. Principal of Khalsa College
for Women, Dr. Kamajit Grewal, and Dr. Charita Mehta, Head of the Physics Department,
emphasized the importance of scientific exploration and how such events inspire students to
learn more about the wonders of the universe. The college hopes that this celebration will
encourage more students to pursue careers in science and technology.

Organized an educational visit in collaboration with WWF-INDIA to Harike Pattan Wetlands and Bird Sanctuary on 26th February, 2025

Department of Chemistry and Department of Geography, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an educational visit in collaboration with WWF-INDIA to Harike Pattan Wetlands and Bird Sanctuary on 26th February, 2025. 50 students accompanied by 2 teachers had a close encounter with nature at Harike Pattan. Students visited the interpretation centre at Harike where Ms. Sarabjit Kaur and Mr. Tarsem Singh showed them pictures of various migratory birds that visit this beautiful wetland every year. Students were told that dolphins and ghadiyals are the residents of these wetlands and WWF along with other organizations are working towards their conservation. As many as 50,000 migratory birds were shown up this year as per the bird count data. After that students had a long nature walk where they got the chance to see the spectacular flora and fauna. The students were made aware about the fact that these wetlands are the most productive part of the environment and cradles of biodiversity that provides habitat to countless species of plants and animals. At the observation tower, students used binoculars to have a closer view of the birds and vegetation surrounding the wetlands. In the end, students took a pledge to keep their environment clean and contribute towards biodiversity conservation by creating awareness among the people around. Madam Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the efforts of the teacher coordinators Dr. Aanchal Arora and Ms. Kulwinder Kaur to organize this visit and also extended heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Gitanjali Kanwar, Project Coordinator, WWF-India, Harike Pattan for providing our students this wonderful opportunity.

Alumni get together ‘Sunehri Pairraan’ held at KCW

The corridors of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana came alive as it opens its heart and doors for the alumni with a get together organized by the old students association under the title ‘Sunehri Pairran’ at college campus on February 22, 2025. Our esteemed alumna working in various fields decorated their alma mater with their gracious presence. More than 250 members registered for the event.

 Ms. Shinee Singh, ACST Ludhiana 3 was the chief guest of the day and Mrs. Rama Munjal, social activist ,  founder and president Arpita Cancer Society was the guest of Honor. Madam Kushal Dhillon, Manager Khalsa College and Director Dr. Mukti Gill were among the esteemed guests of the day.

Our esteemed alumna,  state awardee,  Dr. Rachna Sharma, Chairman, Bal Vikas Trust along with other notable members Mrs Shruti and Mrs. Rijuta of Old Students Association also graced the event. The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal accorded a warm welcome to the  guests on their arrival. The programme kick started with the shabad gayan. The highlight of the event was Punjabi singer Kamal Khan who mesmerised the audience with soulful singing. Another feature was the cultural bonanza presented by the students.

Alumna achievers from 1985 to the recent years were honoured at the event. The executive members of old students association were also acknowledged for their constant support and contribution towards the institute. The alumni shared their experiences and unforgettable moments of the good old days.

The Principal Dr. Kamajit Grewal applauded the efforts of the coordinator Mrs. Jasbir Kaur, Department of Political Science, for organising the reunion. She also appreciated the alumni guests for giving back to society contributing in their own unique ways. The day culminated with photos clicked at selfie corner creating memories together to cherish them later.
