KCW ORGANIZED WORKSHOP ON BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Department of Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, organized two-day workshop on “Biotechnological Techniques and In Silico Analysis of Biomolecules.”
The Day 1 commenced with an insightful session on Fermentation Biotechnology by Dr. Alla Singh, Scientist (ICAR–Indian Institute of Maize Research) attended by B.Sc (Hons) Biotechnology students as well as 30 students from various reputed schools. The session focused on microbial physiology, starch degradation, enzymatic conversion of starch into glucose, and its industrial significance in ethanol production. A special emphasis was placed on precision fermentation and microbial enzyme-based applications. Dr. Alla Singh also conducted hands-on practical demonstrations for both college and school students, providing direct experimental exposure.

This was followed by the introductory session on Microbiological Techniques, which covered fundamental concepts such as sterilization methods, serial dilution, staining techniques, and culture methods. After the introduction, students from various schools actively performed hands-on experimentation, gaining valuable laboratory experience and strengthening their basic understanding of microbiological techniques.

On Day 2 students learnt the decoding secrets of Biomolecules by computational analysis. All the participants were awarded with the certificates. Dr. Mukti Gill, Director, Khalsa Institutes and the college Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Kamaljit Grewal lauded the efforts of Department of Biotechnology and congratulated for the success of the event.
