A 3 Day Seed Ball Making Workshop Inaugurated at KCW

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, under the Environment Education Programme supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India and the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, inaugurated a three-day workshop titled “A Step Towards Nature Restoration: A Seed Ball Making Workshop.” The workshop is being organized by the Eco-Club and Skill Development Cell of the college.

The inaugural session commenced with registration and kit distribution, followed by a formal inauguration highlighting the urgent need for ecological restoration and community participation in environmental conservation. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation of 80 school students and 50 undergraduate students, reflecting strong youth engagement towards sustainability.

An enlightening lecture-cum-awareness session on Connecting Hearts to Nature (Step up to protect the planet)was delivered by the team from EcoSikh Foundation. The distinguished speakers included Dr. Supreet Kaur (President, EcoSikh) and Mr. Pavneet Singh (Head Operations) who emphasized the role of youth in combating climate change and restoring degraded ecosystems. The lecture was focused on the impact of pollution on the environment, climate change and global warming. The speakers emphasized adopting sustainable development methods in order to protect nature.

Then the team screened a meaningful movie ‘I am Seven’ highlighting the concept of global warming and food scarcity. The documentary beautifully portrayed the message of living in harmony with nature and preserving natural resources as a sacred duty. Students were made aware about the establishments of forests in various regions of Punjab. They encouraged the students about adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle and participating in forest making workshops.

The workshop will continue with hands-on training sessions for school and undergraduate students on Day 2, followed by drying of seed balls. On Day 3, participants will undertake a field visit and seed ball dispersal drive at Guru Granth Sahib Bagh, Pato Hira Singh, Moga, under the guidance of environmental experts.

The Principal, Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to become ambassadors of environmental stewardship. The workshop aims to instil ecological sensitivity and empower students to contribute actively towards nature restoration.
