Cancer Awareness Campaign held at Khalsa College for Women

The Youth Red Cross Club of Khalsa College for Women organized a cancer
awareness campaign in collaboration with Jain International Trade Organization
(JITO) Ludhiana to spread awareness on cervical cancer. Doctors around the
city came forward to deliberate upon cervical cancer and apprise
The Campaign kick started by invoking Divine blessings and lighting of lamp
ceremony. Doctors across the city delivered lectures on the prevention,
treatment and cure of cervical cancer. Dr. Monika Dhawan, Laparoscopic and
General Surgeon, Head of Surgery, SKSS Dental College and Hospital, Sarabha
delivered a lecture on the cervical cancer and apprise the students about the
prevention, treatment and cure of the disease. She deliberated upon the various
stages of cancer and how to prevent. while stressing upon the importance of
screening tests also informed the students about the vaccination that can
immune a human body from various other conditions.
Dr. Shirin Gupta, MS, DNB OBYS & Gynae, Mohandai Oswal Hospital,
Ludhiana further highlighted various stages and the risk factors such as early
marriage, weak immune system, multiple pregnancies, smoking and poor
genital hygiene are some of the causes leading to the rise of cervical cancer
among women. She also discussed the other gynecological cancers such ovarian
cancer, cancer of vagina and vulva, breast cancer. She emphasized upon the
importance of screening, vaccination and strong immune system.
Dr. Gursheen Kaur, Consultant Physician & Clinical Cardiologist, Mohandai
Oswal Hospital, Ludhiana informed the audience about heart health. She
centered her lecture on the cardiovascular health. She discussed about the seven
essential habits for a healthy heart which includes exercise, heart-healthy diet,
maintaining healthy weight etc. She recommended healthy and a balanced diet.
The event concluded with an interactive session wherein the queries of the
students regarding health concerns were answered effectively by the health
experts.
College Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur appreciated the efforts of the event director Dr.
Priyaka Khanna and Youth Red Cross Club members for organizing an event
that aims to spread awareness on women health and well- being. She extended
appreciation towards Mrs. Manju Oswal and other members of JITO for their
good work towards empowering society in all the aspects of education, health

and employment. A Lucky draw for 100 registered candidates was carried out to
facilitate free vaccination by JITO
