‘PANACHE 2017’ FRESHERS PARTY AT KCW

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a magnificent fresher’s welcome party, “PANACHE 2017” for the 1st year students on 18th August 2017 in the college campus. The programme commenced with the welcome of the Chief Guest.

Jovial Smiles and high spirits marked the welcome party for the students. The party manifested youth and enthusiasm at its full flow. The ecstasy filled event gave the freshers an opportunity to showcase their talent and also a platform to interact with their seniors. The event saw many dazzling Performances by both seniors and juniors alike. The programme Kick-Started with ramp walk in which many contestants vied for the Miss Fresher’s 2017 title. The contest included several rounds including ramp walk and question answer round which wave magic of fun & joy into the event.

Miss Vanshika Pasriche won Miss Fresher’s, title besides there were six other titles accorded to the students. Mahima won the 1st Runner up and the 2nd Runner up title went to Yeshima Vij. The title of Miss Beautiful Smile was given to Harmeet Kaur. Harshita  was crowned  Miss Charming. Kriti Jain won the title for best attire & Priyanka took away the title for best walk.

In the masters category Simran Brar was crowned Miss Fresher with Kritika and Shivani first and second runner up respectively.

The Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill blessed the students and encouraged them to work hard to achieve their endeavours. Finally the programme ended on a musical note, leaving behind memories to cherish forever.

KCW HOLDS EUPHORIA 2017 FOR NEW COMERS

Department of Sciences of KCW welcomed the science students through ‘Euphoria 2017’ on August 19, 2017. Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill graced the occasion with her eminent presence. Their seniors and staff members accorded new faces added to the KCW family with open arms and showered flowers of warmth, love and guidance upon them. First year students walked the walk of confidence and showcased their embellished ethnic wear. The judges for the event were Mrs Sabina Bhalla (HOD of English), Mrs Harveen (HOD of Sociology) and Mrs. Aditi Satija (HOD of Psychology). The students gave mesmerizing performances like Spanish Tadka, Choreography depicting integrity in India and rajasthani dance. They captured the whole audience through their swirling feet. Sunaina Sharma was crowned Miss Freshers 2017. First runners up position was grabbed by  Dhruvia Verma   and  Simranjeet Kaur stood second runners up. The Principal Madam congratulated the winners and imbibed the students with enthusiasm to work hard and reach new heights.

KCW students shine in Sanskrit Results

The Students of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana brought laurels to the college by scoring 100 % marks in the subject of Sanskrit under the able guidance of Mrs. Nutan Dhanda (Head of Sanskrit Deptt.) Anshu of BA I and Diksha of BA III Scored 100 % besides Vaishali of BA III scored 98 % in the subject. The Managing committee of the college and the Principal Dr. Mukti Gill applauded the efforts of the staff and the students and encouraged them to work hard to achieve new heights.

MATHEMATICS SOCIETY HELD IN KCW

To make the students aware of the impact of mathematics that has made on our lives, Mathematics department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised a Mathematics Power-Point presentation activity on various topics of day to day life.Students of Msc(Mathematics) and other classes took part in it enthusiastically. The topis of presentations were Life of Pi, The Magic of Triangles, Mathematics as a Career, Maths and Music, Fractals, Mathematics- The Queen of Sciences, How Math Saves Our Life, Tessellations, Mathematics and Architecture, Mathematics and Its Secret Concepts, Maths In Nature, Transformation In Geometry and Vedic Mathematics.Students were made aware of many invisible applications of Mathematics in our daily life in order to nurture certain qualities i.e. power of reasoning, creativity, abstract or spatial thinking and effective communication skills. Judges of the event were Mrs. Him Kanta, Department of Chemistry and Mrs. Poonam Pathak, Department of Economics. Yashika, student of B.Sc.II stood first. Riya and Simran, Anoop and Tanya, Shivika stood second and third respectively. Consolation prize was bagged by Shivika. Principal Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill congratulated the winners and participants and appreciated the efforts put in by the members of department under the guidance of Mrs. Ritu Ahuja, head of department. She also encouraged to organise such activities revealing the hidden facts of Mathematics in future.

Workshop on Domestic Violence

Department of Political Science, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised a workshop on Domestic Violence Act on 23rd August, 2017.

Ms. Leena Taparia President District Mahila Congress and member of Information and Public Relation Cell Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and her team Thandi Chhaan touched the contemporary issue of domestic violence. They shared that women are much more likely to be domestic abuse victims, being women. They also interacted with the students and gave ear to their problems.

Principal Dr.( Mrs) Mukti Gill thanked Madam Leena and the team Thandi Chhaan for mind scratching session and expressed that such workshops need to be conducted frequently to bring about a change at the grass root.

Empowering Students with Nuances of Banking

Department of Economics of Khalsa College for women, civil lines Ludhiana in collaboration with Career Coaching Cell organized a student visit to Punjab & Sind Bank Ludhiana on August 29, 2017. As many as 50 students from B.A. II & III of Economics visited the bank. The visit was organized to give the students an insight into the various banking concepts, systems and banking operations. Students interacted with the employees and got to know the fine nuances about the functioning of the bank.  The Assistant Manager of the bank Mrs. Reenu Rai explained their job profile and duties as a manager also the sensitized the students about e-KYC, internet banking, RTGS, NEFT and gave practical knowledge about how to open a bank account. Ms. Rajinder kaur interacted with the students and answered their queries related to various banking activities like different type of vouchers, interest rate of different schemes; loan procedures etc. Manager of the bank S. Jaspal Singh Jolly made the students aware about various career avenues & opportunities available in the banking sector. It was quiet a learning experience for the students as they acquired the firsthand knowledge about how a bank operates. College principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill applauded the efforts of the department and emphasized banking as a fine career option for the students and also that in the current era of digitization it is vital for the students to have a working knowledge about the use of various banking services.

Celebrated National Sports Day

The Physical Education Dept. of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana Celebrated National Sports Day in the college Campus. National Sports Day is marked on the Birthday Anniversary of eminent Hockey Legend Dhyan chand. The Day was celebrated by the Students of Physical Education Amrinder, Reema, Neetu Kavi & Manisha  gave Speech on National Sports Day Apprising the other Students of the Significance of Sports.

Dr. Sukhpal Kaur Head of Physical Education Dept. also shared some words of wisdom regarding the Importance of Sports Days and its Contribution to the Fitness of body and Mind.

Principal of the College Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill encouraged the Students to take Active part in the Sports. She further stated that Students Should Develop a Habit of reading Biographies of Famous Sports Personalities and drive inspiration from them.

Extension Lecture by Dr. Ram Singh Gurna

Post Graduate department of History  of Khalsa college for Women ,civil lines, Ludhiana organized an extension lecture by Dr. Ram Singh Gurna , Head of the Department , A.S College Khanna on ‘The Trauma of Partition of 1947’

Dr. Singh in his lecture highlighted that how on August 14-15, 1947, the British Raj ended and India got independence but this freedom came at a price. The Partition of India resulted in one of the greatest convulsions in human history .Communities were split, families separated and neighbours once living side by side in harmony divided along sectarian lines.

Principal Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill thanked the guest and appreciated the efforts of the department for organizing such events as this topic still holds relevance in the present times and through it one could understand the great divide between India and Pakistan.

FIGHTING THE HIDDEN FEARS AND CONQUERING STAGE PHOBIA

The Counseling Cell of Khalsa College for Women organized an enlightening and informative workshop on Ways to Conquer Stage Phobia.

The volunteers of Psychology Department of the college had identified the students who could benefit the most from this innovative program .These students were invited for a workshop where a trained psychologist, Miss Vaishali Chopra shared the psychological principles in combating this debilitating problem. She stuck a strong rapport with the participants through group therapy and elaborated upon various techniques like rational thinking, appraisal technique and creative visualization which could be used to overcome the inner fears and develop a confident personality.

The Principal Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill inaugurated the workshop by releasing a brochure containing descriptive information about strategies to conquer stage phobia. Later the student volunteers from the department of psychology distributed the leaflets throughout the college in order to enlighten the students and empower them with adequate soft skills for a fully functioning personality.

The principal applauded the efforts put in by the dynamic and enterprising counseling cell of the College and the department of Psychology for always being on the forefront in taking care of the psychological needs of the students.
