INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY CELEBRATED AT K.C.W.

Youth Club of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana observed International Peace day. On the spot Poster Making Competition was organized to mark the significance of the day and to judge the talent of the students. Keeping in mind the theme of the day that is to inspire the next generation to become peace makers of the future, inspiring positive action to take place in their homes, schools and communities; the students impersonated their ideas and thoughts on the paper.

Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill, principal of the college appreciated the efforts taken by the students and the members of the youth club. She stated that peace day provides a unique platform for people from all sectors of the society to unite.

KCW Students Achieved Positions in M.A. Fine Arts, Semester-II

The students of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana have achieved outstanding result in M.A. Fine Arts Semester-II which were declared by Panjab University on 20th September, 2017. Five students of college have placed their name in top 10 positions. Aishwarya Sehdev bagged Ist position by scoring 355/400 (88.7%) marks, Gagandeep and Jasjot Kaur bagged IInd position by scoring 351/400 (87.7%) marks, Shifali Kapoor bagged VIIIth postion by scoring 332/400 (83%) marks, Sukhsagar Deep Kaur bagged Xth position by scoring 328/400 (82%) marks.

The students who had appeared in the examination have scored more than 73% marks. The prestigious managing committee congratulates Madam Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and the staff of Fine Arts Department for their sincere efforts in generating excellent results. They applauded the students for maintain the tradition of the college in clinching university positions and also wished them to continue greater scale in life.

NAAC TEAM VISIT AT KCW

The NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) Peer team visited Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana on 18th and 19th Sept, 2017 to assess and accredit the institution. The peer team comprising Prof. Kumkum Mishra, Chairman, Prof. Kshama Agarwal, member and Dr. George Padikara, member co-ordinator reviewed the functioning of college from various aspects – the teaching learning process, curricular aspects, research, consultancy and extension infrastructure, etc. They interacted with the students, parents and alumnae for feedback. They visited various departments, college library, examined the laboratories, support services available and functioning of administrative staff. The efficacy of NSS, NCC and Youth Red Cross unit was graded. Numerous clubs were also adjudged. The effectiveness of diverse add on courses and vocational courses was also evaluated. The exit meeting marked the culmination of the visit wherein the report was handed over to the Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill. The Principal and staff expressed their gratitude to NAAC peer team for assessing and accrediting the institution.

K.C.W, M.A History girls shine in P.U Examination

Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines, Ludhiana secured 3 positions in the M.A History 2nd Sem., result declared by the Punjab University. Amritpal Kaur secured 1st position with 78.75%, Khusboo stood 5th position with 75.75% and Sunita Gupta secured Xth position with 74.5%.Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill congratulated the students for their success and lauded the efforts of the History department for their hard work.

UNDERSTANDING MENTAL DISORDERS

The counseling cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a unique program enabling experiential learning among students of the college.

The students from the Departments of Psychology, Economics & Sociology were taken for a field trip to K.K hospital to learn about mental disorders and a socio-economic profiling of people suffering from various mental disorders.

They were given a detailed layout of taking case of patients suffering from mental disorders and the importance of rapport building while doing so.

Further, these students tried to learn the socio – demographic factors affecting mental health of the patients of the hospital. They interacted with some patients and discussed their symptoms. The visit provided an opportunity of observational learning and substantiated the theoretical knowledge that these students had received as a part of their academic curriculum.

The interdisciplinary nature of participants gave them an opportunity to share their subject’s specific aspects of abnormality and provided a complete picture of the socio-economic profiling of people with mental disorders. The students felt that seeing the situation in real life was an eye opener for them and helped them to relate to their theoretical knowledge.

 

‘SWACHHTA PAKHWADA’ Drive concluded at KCW

‘SWATCHHTA PAKHWADA’ Drive initiated by Khalsa College for Women, civil lines, Ludhiana (from 1ST to 15TH September as per guidelines of the HRD Ministry) concluded today with the prize distribution function held in the college during the morning assembly. A number of clubs and societies participated and various activities were organized in and outside the college campus.  The drive kick started with the cleanliness club taking out a rally and celebrating the clean and green campus day. Hostel mess clean day was observed and a team of teachers inspected the mess and sensitize the students about the importance of health and hygiene. An essay writing contest was organized on ‘Innovative ways for spreading the message of hygiene and the winners were honored. The NSS volunteers of the college organized clean surroundings day on 6thsept.and cleaned all the roads leading to the college. The unit also visited the slum areas on 9thsept.and apprise the children about the personal cleanliness and hygiene. A visit to an orphanage house was also organized and a visit to ESIC Hospital was held to evoke the sensitivity towards virtues of sanitation.

On 15th September Pledge Day was observed as per the directions of Department of Water Supply and Sanitation Punjab and pledge was taken by all to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene.

The Principal Dr. Mukti Gill honored the participants and winners and appreciated the staff members for involving the students in the issues of importance to the country.

CHART MAKING COMPETITION AT KCW

The English Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a chart making competition on the various themes based on English literature and grammar. The students showcased their talent by making analytical and descriptive charts on figurative devices, parts of speech, literary terms, sketches on writers, writers and their works, writers and their quotes and communication process etc. Mrs. Sunmeet Kaur of Fine Arts department was the judge of the event. Arpuneet Kaur of B.A.III earned first prize, Megha of M.A English stood second and Mansi and Arshjot of B.A III secured third prize. A consolation prize was given to Kanwarpreet Kaur, Jasleen Kaur and Surbhi.

The Principal Dr. Mukti Gill congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of the staff.

 

GREEN INITIATIVE BY KCW

The ECO Club Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana marked it’s anniverasry celebrations by sensitiasing the students about the ecological importance with the aim of protecting the environment.  A step towards Green Initiative was taken by the collective efforts of all the departments of the Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. In which each of them made theme based  pots related to their subject.  depicting Marine Life, Bio-remidiation, Save Earth, Music, Indian Economy,  Communal Harmony etc. Students from each deprtment demonstrated  the significance of their theme. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of all the departments and motivated the students for inculcating the value of “GO GREEN” in every aspect of life.

SWACHHTA PAKHWADA – VISIT TO ESIC HOSPITAL LUDHIANA BY NSS UNIT FROM KCW

As directed by Ministry of Human Resource Development, NSS unit of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. organized Swachhta Pakhwada        (1st September  to 15th September 2017) for spreading the message of cleanliness not only among students but also in the surounding areas.

In this regard, A visit to ESIC Model Hospital Ludhiana on 13th September was organised to evoke senstivity to virtues of sanitation and cleanliness. NSS volunteer represenatives  took a round of the hospital with banners and charts containning the mesage of cleanliness and also interacted with patients.

Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts made by NSS volunteers and NSS prgramme officer and thanked Medical supdt. ESIC for Co-operation.

LEGAL LITERACY DRIVE CONCLUDES AT KCW

Legal Literacy drive organized by Legal Literacy Club of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana concluded with a visit to Swami Ganga Giri Janta Girls College, Raikot..

Dr. Khushdip Kaur, In charge of Legal Literacy Club presented a guest lecture on various issues of CYBER CRIME. She deliberated on the gravity of crimes like Hacking, Stalking, Morphing, Pornography and Cyber Terrorism and discussed the ways to tackle such situations where the privacy of a person is shattered through the misuse of ID Accounts or other personal details. She emphasized on the vigilant use of internet and social media and accentuated the students that they must avoid making personal details available on cyber space, as it might be misused. She further apprised the students about the increasing cyber crime and why most of the crimes remain unreported due to the hesitation and fear of infamy. She made an appeal to report such crimes to the cyber cells established at the district levels under the (IT ACT 2000) or to the police to avoid any potential harm.

During the interactive session amongst the other burning topics of cyber crime she discussed at length about the Blue Whale game and shared some tips & tricks to stay away from such links.

Club members Kanishka & Mehak Soni delivered speeches on ‘Sexual Harrasment at Work Place’ and ‘Child Abuse’.  They also shared the helpline number 1091 and 1098 to report such crimes. Very Informative videos were also shown to students.
