Khalsa College for Women Celebrates “Ecopreneur Diwali”

The corridors of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana reverberated with enthusiasm and joy as the Fine Arts Department along with Skill Development Council in collaboration with National Edu Trust of India organized “Ecopreneur Diwali” to promote sustainability and creativity through eco-friendly festive exhibits on 16th October, 2025.  This humongous event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana and  the esteemed members of managing committee Madam Kushal Dhillon, Sardarni Ravinder Kaur Grewal, Madam Manmeet Kaur Grewal, Director   Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and the college Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal.

Over 65 participants showcased innovative creations made from discarded materials under stalls such as Eco Fusion Creation, Paradise Preserved, Heritage Loops, Sustainable Glow for Candles, and Sparsh (The Touch of Art). The event was judged on creativity, use of waste materials, and aesthetic appeal.

Winners: 1st – Gayatri Paul (Tag 11), 2nd – Aditi (Tag 42), 3rd – Rozy (Tag 80). Special Awards: Mehak (Eco Message), Naina Garg (Aesthetic Excellence), Praytal (Spirit of Diwali), Mansi (Festive Glow), Mohika (Functional Genius).

The various departments  of the college put up  around 80 stalls comprising of fancy diyas,stones art, decorative candles and bottles, glass painting and photoframes etc. Amazing and trendy fashion stalls such as nail art, painted suits and dupattas along with hand made jewellery was another attraction of the event. The Botany Department put up a stall of plants to promote healthy and green diwali. NGOS’ like Guru Gyan Jyoti Viklang Welfare Society, Ek Jot Viklang Bachon ka School and Association for Blinds  catering to the needs of special children also put up  stalls where beautiful handicrafts were at display.

Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the students’ efforts in promoting green celebration and entrepreneurial thinking. She further extended heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed members of management and the guests for gracing the event. Dr. Priyanka Khanna, Skill Development Cell Incharge, emphasized that such activities nurture creativity and environmental awareness among youth.

KCW Bags First Runners up Trophy at P.U Zonal Youth &Heritage Festival

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the institution by securing 1 st Runner-Up Trophy at the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival (Zone-2) hosted by S.C.D. Government College, Ludhiana from 11 th October to 14 th October, 2025. The four-day festival celebrated the rich cultural and artistic spirit of Punjab through a wide array of events in literary, music, dance, theatre, and heritage categories. A total of 147 students from the college participated
with great enthusiasm in various categories. The college won an impressive 31 prizes in total — 13 First, 7 Second, and 11 Third positions — across various team events, along with 6 individual prizes (2 each in first, second, and third categories).
This remarkable achievement is a reflection of the collective dedication and teamwork of the participating students, faculty mentors, and the continuous guidance and motivation provided by Director, Dr (Mrs) Mukti Gill and Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal.
The college managing committee applauded the students and their mentors for their commendable achievement in the youth fest.

PROMITING MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY

A Mental Health Drive to mark World Mental Health Day was organised by the KCW Counselling Cell, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. The student volunteers prepared a photo booth with informative charts, brochures and info graphics. The aim of this display was to spread a word about Mental Health issues, reduce stigma and promote access to Mental Health care globally.

Various students and staff of the college visited the photo booth and were sensitized about relevance of positive Mental Health. Further, they got their pictures clicked to share on their social media and to spread the word about Mental Health Literacy.

The student volunteers also visited various business outlets in Ghumar Mandi area to open discussion about Mental Health issues in the community. The Director, Dr. Mukti Gill and the Principal of the College, Dr. Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of Department of Psychology in creating a supportive environment that promotes mental wellbeing.

Waltz into Wonder Freshers Party held at KCW

The Humanities Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a Freshers Party Waltz into Wonder for B.A first year students on October 04,2025. The entertaining extravaganza comprising dances, melodious songs and skit were presented by the students. The hallmark of the day was Ms. Freshers contest in which  a number of  students dressed as beauty divas participated and contested for the titles.

Mrs Meena Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Maths, Ms. Monita Dhiman, Head Department of Zoology and Ms Inderpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, graced the event as Judges. Gursifat Kaur was entitled as Miss Freshers 2025. Khushpreet Kaur bagged the title of Runway Queen, Sania Kapoor was graced with the title of Winsome smile.  Diya was sashayed down for  Epitome of elegance and Sukhman Grewal was adjudged Miss crowning glory. The  Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal congratulated the organizers of the party on the success of the event. She also appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers. She extended good wishes to the students for their new beginnings of college life. She further motivated them to work hard and scale new heights.

Managing Difficult Conversations and Creating Hope

Department of Psychology and KCW Counselling Cell of Khalsa College for Women, Civil

Lines, Ludhiana organised a mental health awareness drive to mark the Suicide Prevention

Day on September 10, 2025. The program commenced with the inauguration of an awareness

rally by the Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal from the college grounds. The volunteers held

placards and brochures and shared them with other students and members of the community.

The aim was to highlight the significance of talking about the subject in order to reduce

stigma around such uncomfortable issues. They propagated open conversations along with

education on mental health and shared resources so as to spread the word and promote

support for those affected.

Thereafter, various groups of students went to different departments of the college with

special informative brochures for the heads of the departments and teachers. They aimed to

sensitize them on how to help individuals in crisis, and provide them with various tips on

language to use and correct questions to ask.

The Director Dr. Mukti Gill and the Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the

enthusiasm of the volunteers of Counselling Cell for raising awareness and fostering a

supportive environment for various mental health issues for the benefit of the students and the

community.

KCW Student Excels in CSIR UGC NET Exam

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, has once again brought laurels with an outstanding achievement by Taniya Arora ,a postgraduate student of the Department of Mathematics. She has successfully cleared the CSIR UGC NET examination with an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 31, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Taniya attributed her success to consistent hard work, disciplined study habits, and the dedicated guidance of her teachers. She expressed deep gratitude towards the faculty of the Mathematics Department for their continuous support and encouragement.

The College Managing Committee and Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Kamaljit Kaur congratulated Taniya, the faculty, and students for their remarkable performance and for upholding the rich legacy of academic excellence at KCW.

Organized a Free Health Checkup Camp

Old Students’ Association, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised a Free Health Checkup Camp for Hostel students on 26th August, 2025, in collaboration with Deepak Hospital. The camp was inaugurated by Dr (Prof) Rajneesh Calton [MD (Med.), DNB (Med.), DNB (Card)], Dr. Nalini Calton (MD Senior Pathologist) and Dr. Kulwant Singh [MD (Medicine) Cardiologist] Deepak Heart Institute. They focus on a heart-healthy lifestyle. Free diagnostic tests including Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and ECG were also conducted.

The initiative aimed at promoting health awareness including heart health and ensuring the well-being of students. Principal Dr. (Mrs) Kamaljit Grewal highly appreciated and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical experts and organizers for their efforts in making the camp a resounding success.

FUN AND FROLIC MARK FRESHERS PARTY

Freshers party is the moment when all the seniors whole heartedly and joyfully welcome their juniors. Fun, frolic and rejuvenation marked the Freshers party organized by the departments of Computer Science , Business Management and Sciences at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. The mesmerizing music, songs, flash freezing lights and the exuberant students were the defining moments in the party.

The show was a blend of cultural items and foot tapping performances. The gala event of the day “Ramp Modeling” by the students of First year was judged by Dr Honey Walia,Dr Khushdip Kaur, Dr Aditi Satija . The results of the same are:

HUNAR DEGA PEHCHAAN 2025- TALENT HUNT CONTEST

The Departments of Psychology, Music Vocal& Instrumental, at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organized a Talent Hunt Contest-Hunar Dega Pehchaan-25.

The aim of this event was to give a platform to students to sharpen their skills and to explore their hidden talents. Students from a variety of streams participated enthusiastically in the competition. 37 participants of received stage exposure and life skills training to hone their artistic acumen and communication skills.

The performances were diverse and captivating, featuring singing, playing instruments like santoor, guitar, electric guitar, tabla and xylophone, interspersed with first year students learning singing and anchoring skills, thus benefitting from stage exposure.The participants impressed with their ability to play a variety of instruments and sing melodious songs.

The event was judged by Dr. Honey Walia, senior faculty from the Department of English and Mrs. Sanjana Bhola, Award-winning Indian vocalist performer and alumnus of the college.

The Principal, Dr. Kamaljit Grewal, and the college director, Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill, commended the efforts of teachers and students. They congratulated the winners and underlined the value of recognising and nurturing the potential of youngsters in order to equip them for the challenges of life, highlighting the importance of such events in encouraging students’ creativity and talent.

Celebrates World Photography Day

Painting & Photography Club organized Photography Exhibition on 19 August, 2025 to celebrate the World Photography Day on the theme “Contrast”. Twenty four participants from UG & PG classes of Khalsa College participated in this exhibition. This event featured a wide range of photographic works, capturing diverse perspectives, and artistic expressions. The exhibition celebrates the art of photography as a medium of storytelling, creativity, and visual culture.

The purpose of the exhibition was to bring out the different creative ideas in relation to contrast and show the beauty of contrast. The result was declared on the same day. Principal Dr.Kamaljit Grewal & Director Dr.Mukti Gill grace the event with their presence and congratulated the staff and participants.
