Basant Panchami is an annual festival that is celebrated with immense enthusiasm and reverence throughout India. This festival signifies the onset of spring and is dedicated to the goddess Saraswati, who is venerated as the goddess of knowledge, music, arts, and science. It is widely believed that on this day, the goddess grants her devotees wisdom and knowledge, making it a particularly auspicious occasion for students, scholars, and intellectuals to offer their prayers and seek blessings for their academic and professional pursuits.
In recognition of the onset of spring, the Department of Home Science organized a Basant Panchami celebration on February 3, 2025. This event prominently featured an exhibition of “yellow cuisines,” which symbolize the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India as reflected in its culinary traditions.
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of undergraduate students. They prepared an array of “yellow cuisines,” such as kesar ghevar, idlis, dhoklas, vegetable biryani, meethe chawal, kesari bhaat, besan laddoo, and besan barfi. The students’ choice to don yellow attire added to the festive spirit of the occasion. The celebration was a true testament to the cultural richness of India.
Principal Dr. Kanwaljit Grewal commended the students for their innovative contributions to the celebration of this spring festival and congratulated Dr. Amarinder Caur, the Head of the Home Science Department, for the event’s overall success.
