The Department of Biotechnology, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organized an Inter-School Model Making Competition on “BioE3”, an Indian Governmentinitiative highlighting the role of biotechnology in strengthening the Economy, Environment, and Employment on October 29, 2025. The event aimed to enhance scientific awareness among students about the multifaceted contributions of biotechnology toward national development. Participants presented both working and non-working models under innovative themes such as Bioproducts and Bioprocessing, Bioenergy and Biofuels, Microbiome, Biotechnology in Medicine, Biotechnology in Agriculture and Environment, and Artificial
Intelligence in Biotechnology. A total of 23 students from various reputed schools, including BCM Basant City, BVM Kitchlu Nagar, Guru Nanak International Public School (Model Town), Guru Nanak Public School (Model Town Extension), R.S. Model Senior Secondary School, Ryan International School (Urban Estate), Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, and DAV Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana, showcased their creativity and scientific skills through impressive exhibits. Simultaneously, students of B.Sc. (Hons.)
Biotechnology also displayed their working models aligned with the same themes. The models were evaluated by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Mycologist, Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and Dr. Harjeevan Kaur, Plant Biotechnologist, Gurdev Singh Khush Institute of Genetics, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, PAU, Ludhiana. All participants received certificates of appreciation, while the winners were awarded trophies. The event successfully met its objective of spreading awareness about biotechnology’s pivotal role in realizing the goals of the BioE3 policy. The college Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Kamaljit Grewal lauded the Department of Biotechnology for its dedicated efforts and encouraged continued pursuit of excellence in scientific outreach and innovation.
