KCW Celebrates International Mother Tongue Day 

To mark the International Mother Tongue Day, Post Graduate Departments of Punjabi and fine Arts organized Inter College Poster Making and Poetic Recitation Competitions. Dr. Jaswant Singh Jafar, Director, Department of Languages, Punjab, acted as a chief Guest and Dr. Parveen Kumar, Department

of Punjabi, Chandigarh acted as a Guest of Honor for the day. The event began with the ceremonial College Shabad. The Guests were warmly accorded by College Director Dr, Mukti Gill, Madam Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal, Dr. Narinderjit Kaur, Head, Department of Punjabi and Ms. Ashu Head, Department of Fine Arts. On this occasion a book entitled ‘Punjabi Kahani: Malwai Pichokad Ate Naveen Drishti’ authored by Dr. Manpreet Kaur was launched. Dr. Jaswant Singh encouraged the students to respect their mother tongue and they should speak it without any hesitation. Dr. Parveen Kumar highlighted the importance of other languages but along with it one should stay connected to one’s roots through the mother tongue.

Dr. Jagdish Kaur, Professor Department of Punjabi, PAU, Ludhiana and Dr. Shivani Rana, Scientist PAU, Ludhiana acted as judges for Inter- College Poster Making Competition wherein Manpreet Kaur of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana bagged the First Prize, Pearl of Malwa Central College of Education stood second and Pallavi Kumari of Ramgarhia Girls college clinched Third prize. The Consolation Prizes were awarded to Arush Sharma of KIMT and Gurleen Kaur of A. S. College of Education, Khanna. In Inter College Poetic Recitation Competition, Amanpreet Singh of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha clinched the First Prize, Rajpreet Kaur of Malwa Central College of Education bagged the Second Prize and Prakriti of Ramgarhia Girls College got the Third Prize whereas the Consolation Prize was awarded to Akashdeep Singh of G.G.N. Khalsa College, Ludhiana. The highlight of the day was the Book Fair being organized with the support of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle wherein various publishers showcased books in various genres. The event concluded with the distribution of Prizes and Certificates to the winners.

Madam Principal applauded the efforts of the departments for organizing such an event to promote our Mother Tongue. Dr. Narinderjit Kaur, Head, Dept. of Punjabi presented the Vote of Thanks.
