KCW NCC Department Celebrated ‘INTERNATIONAL DAY OF

HAPPINESS ’

‘International day of happiness’ is a day aimed at making people around the world realise the
importance of happiness. United Nations General Assembly passed the resolution in 2012 to
celebrate this day on 20 th march every year realising that pursuit of happiness is a
fundamental human goal. To share happiness with friends and peers, NCC Department of
Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an event on 20 th March 2024 in
collaboration with 3Pb Girls Bn NCC Ludhiana under the stewardship of Capt (Dr. Paramjeet
Kaur), Associate NCC Officer of the college. Col R.S. Chauhan, Commanding Officer,3 Pb
Girls Bn NCC Ludhiana was the chief guest of the event. NCC staff (Hawaldar Jaswinder
Singh and Naik Subedar Ranjit Singh, Director Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill, Principal Dr. (Mrs)
Iqbal Kaur, around 140 NCC cadets and 8 NCC Alumnae became part of this happiness
event. The aim of the event was to spread awareness among young generations about the
importance of happiness and to make everyone realise that happiness is a universal human
right.
NCC Cadets of the college UO Abha, Cadet Sandhya, Cadet Babli and Cadet Nikita
described the idea and theme of this year’s happiness day (Reconnecting for happiness,
Building Resilient Communities) with the aid of PowerPoint presentation. The cadets covered
the topics of introduction to happiness, historical background of the day, world happiness
index of myriad nations, place of India in world happiness list, reasons of staying unhappy,
importance of happiness in living and keys to enhance happiness level. Cadets also narrated
the comparative figures of happiness rate among men and women. The main attraction of
their talk was the strategies that NCC cadets can adopt to make the people around themselves
happy. The presentation came to a conclusion with discussion on the measures to be taken for
spreading awareness among people especially young generations.
In the second phase of event, Rank cum Award ceremony was organized for cadets who have
showcased excellent participation and leadership skills in the previous session. Final year
were given the ranks by Col R.S. Chauhan, NCC staff and college principal. Deserving cadets
were given awards to appreciate and celebrate their achievements and their contribution not
just for being NCC cadets but also for transforming themselves into productive youth for the
society. NCC alumnae cadets were also given appreciation for being part of this happiness
event. The event concluded with the patriotic NCC song and formal vote of thanks.
