Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh observed at Khalsa College For Women

The Punjabi, History and Physical Education Departments of the Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized various activities to commemorate the Shaheed Diwas of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Mrs. Anush Priya Benipal, grand daughter of the brother of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and daughter of Abhay Singh was the guest of Honor. The guests were extended a floral welcome by Dr. Iqbal Kaur on their arrival. The event kick started with the lamp lighting ceremony.

While addressing the youngsters Mrs. Benipal said Bhagat Singh will remain an inspiration for the youngsters of the today and the generations to come. She further shared anecdotes from his life behind the bars and apprised the students about his ideology that was against social inequalities. She motivated the youngsters to think themselves to be a part of Bhagat Singh’s Family and urged them to take inspiration from his life and work towards building a prosperous nation.

An extension lecture was organised by the Department of History. Dr. Meera Nagpal, Assistant Professor, Panjab University, Regional Campus, Ludhiana was the speaker of the day. She deliberated on ‘ S. Bhagat Singh and the Revolutionary Trend’.  Dr. Nagpal expressed her views upon the inspirational and legendary life of the freedom fighter. She took the youngsters on a journey of freedom struggle and shared the events of freedom struggle chronologically while emphasizing the role and contribution of the revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh. She stated that his contribution to the freedom struggle is beyond measure and the youngsters must take pride and uphold his legacy. She further said that martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, was a turning point in the Indian freedom struggle and  inspired many young individuals to join the freedom struggle.

The Department of Punjabi organized a skit titled  ‘ Bhagat Singh Zinda Hai’. The students performed while spreading a message on the values of patriotism, courage and valour. The skit also presents a satire on the contemporary political scenario while highlighting the significance of Bhagat Singh’s ideology to be followed in letter and spirit. The Physical Education Department carried out a  cycle rally in and around the campus wherein around 100 students participated holding placards highlighting philosophy and ideology of Bhagat Singh that infused ideas of revolution and patriotism in the hearts of the youngsters.

Principal Dr. Iqbal Kaur applauded the efforts of the heads of departments and staff of Punjabi, History and Physical Education on the success of the event. She further said that the values of patriotism, courage and selflessness that these great heroes embodied are still relevant today. It is time the youngsters must wake up and draw inspiration from the lives of freedom fighters to bring change in society.

The event concluded with a moment of silence observed to honor the sacrifice of these great martyrs.
