National Science Day celebrations at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana

The National Science Day celebrations at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana,
commenced with an enlightening assembly where students were informed about the
significance of the day. The assembly focused on the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman
Effect by Dr. C.V. Raman in 1928, a remarkable achievement that not only earned him the
Nobel Prize but also made lasting contributions to the field of physics.
In recognition of the day, students actively participated in raising awareness about the
ongoing “Planet Parade”—a rare astronomical event where seven planets align in the sky.
During the assembly, students provided a brief history of planetary alignments and explained
the science behind why such events occur. They also encouraged their peers to step outside
and observe the alignment of these planets in the evening. Students were motivated to capture
this celestial phenomenon and share their experiences on instagram, inviting others to witness
the wonders of science.
As a symbolic gesture of awareness and participation, students proudly wore badges to mark
their involvement in the Planet Parade event. These badges were also distributed to teachers,
who were encouraged to join the students in observing the celestial event. The badges served
as a reminder of the collective curiosity, enthusiasm, and appreciation for science and
astronomy that the entire college community shared.
The event successfully promoted scientific inquiry and fostered a sense of wonder among
students, inspiring them to explore the mysteries of the universe. Principal of Khalsa College
for Women, Dr. Kamajit Grewal, and Dr. Charita Mehta, Head of the Physics Department,
emphasized the importance of scientific exploration and how such events inspire students to
learn more about the wonders of the universe. The college hopes that this celebration will
encourage more students to pursue careers in science and technology.
