Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched ‘Swatch Bharat Mission’ in 2014 with the aim to achieve universal sanitation and keeping our water bodies clean is a crucial step towards the attainment of this mission. Joining hands for this national cleanliness campaign, 28 cadets from Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana conducted an event under the banner ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ on 9th June 2022. NCC cadets visited Budha Dariya, a seasonal water stream which passes through Ludhiana district and has become a waste dumping nullah in the recent time. The objectives of drive were to spread awareness amongst nearby residents regarding ill effects of dumping waste in dariya, collecting the plastic waste, offering unending support and contribution towards the ongoing work by various government agencies.
The campaign was undertaken under the stewardship of Col. Aman Yadav (Commanding Officer, 3 Punjab Girls Bn. NCC Ludhiana), College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and Associate NCC Officer Capt. (Dr.) Paramjeet Kaur. The cadets indulged into various activities during their visit such as awareness rally in the nearby areas, spreading one to one awareness regarding the segregation of dry waste and wet waste, presentation of cleanliness theme with Nukkad Natak (Street Play), charts and slogans display etc. Young cadets urged the residents surrounding Budha Dariya to keep it garbage free and respect this water source. The campaign successfully created awareness on ill effects of dumping plastic waste in dariya, right technique of waste disposal, waste segregation and cleanliness of the surroundings. The common message of ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ was disseminated among masses via this programme.
College Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts put in by NCC department. She applauded cadets for their sincere efforts and motivated them to keep their nearby water bodies clean and safe. She also briefed the cadets about creative disposal of plastic waste in the form of recycling and utilizing the same in building and construction sectors and making use of environment friendly materials.
