One day National Seminar on Sustainable Development held at KCW

The Zoology Department under the aegis of IQAC of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organised College Development Council, Panjab University Chandigarh, sponsored One Day National seminar “Achieving Sustainable Development goals: Challenges and Pathways Forward” in the college
auditorium on November 08, 2025. The Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal extended a warm welcome to the guests and delegates of the day. Madam Kushal Dhillon, member from the managing committee of KCW along with Director Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill also graced the event.
Faculty, Scholars and researchers from various Universities and Institutes of India participated in the Seminar. Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Lucfhiana, was the Chief Guest and presented the inaugural address. In his address he reflected upon India’s role in G-20 sustainable development goals focusing on green development. He further talked about initiatives addressing major agricultural sustainability issues in punjab viz., climate change, depleting ground water, integrated pest management, crop diversification.
Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Dean, Student Welfare Punjab Agricultural University, was the guest of honour. Dr Inder Pal Sidhu, Head, PG Department of Zoology, Guru Gobind Singh College, Sec 26, Chandigsrh alongwith Dr Sangeet Ranguwal, Depatment of Economics and Sociology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Chaired the Poster Presentation Session. Dr Ravinder Singh Chandi, Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Dr Karun Kant Uppal, Kamla Lohtia S D College, Ludhiana, Chaired the PowerPoint Presentation Session.
Dr. Daizy Batish, Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, deliberated upon green technologies as a cornerstone for sustainable development. She broadly discussed innovations that focus on environmental enhancement and resource efficiency such as green initiatives for waste management and modern technologies like smart bins and automatic waste collection through underground pipe and technology of bioremediation for treating agricultural waste.
The session was taken over by the eminent academicians from various parts of the country. Dr. Hardeep Rai, Professor Institute of Environmental Sciences, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, discussed the importance of solid waste management. Dr. Prashant Mohanpuria, Assistant Professor, School of Agricultural Biotechnology, PAU Ludhiana , discussed the role of biotechnology in achieving sustainable agricultural models and innovative solutions.
Mr Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Zonal Commissioner Ludhiana along with Dr Balwinder Singh Lakhewali, were the guests for valedictory function. In his valedictory speech Mr. Sekhon, appreciated the efforts of the organisers for walking an extra mile to bring insights into the important issue of sustainability.
Dr. Monita Dhiman, Head, Department of Zoology delivered vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and faculty from various colleges. The event culminated with the beats of national anthem.
