Department of Chemistry and Department of Geography, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an educational visit in collaboration with WWF-INDIA to Harike Pattan Wetlands and Bird Sanctuary on 26th February, 2025. 50 students accompanied by 2 teachers had a close encounter with nature at Harike Pattan. Students visited the interpretation centre at Harike where Ms. Sarabjit Kaur and Mr. Tarsem Singh showed them pictures of various migratory birds that visit this beautiful wetland every year. Students were told that dolphins and ghadiyals are the residents of these wetlands and WWF along with other organizations are working towards their conservation. As many as 50,000 migratory birds were shown up this year as per the bird count data. After that students had a long nature walk where they got the chance to see the spectacular flora and fauna. The students were made aware about the fact that these wetlands are the most productive part of the environment and cradles of biodiversity that provides habitat to countless species of plants and animals. At the observation tower, students used binoculars to have a closer view of the birds and vegetation surrounding the wetlands. In the end, students took a pledge to keep their environment clean and contribute towards biodiversity conservation by creating awareness among the people around. Madam Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal appreciated the efforts of the teacher coordinators Dr. Aanchal Arora and Ms. Kulwinder Kaur to organize this visit and also extended heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Gitanjali Kanwar, Project Coordinator, WWF-India, Harike Pattan for providing our students this wonderful opportunity.
