Dyslexia Awareness Event

KCW Counselling Cell, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines Ludhiana, in collaboration with Special Education Academy Ludhiana (SEAL), organized a ‘Dyslexia Awareness Event’ on October 21, 2022 at Sarabha Nagar Market from 5PM to 6PM. The event was focused on removing stigma attached to children with dyslexia and making people aware about how these children can work on and improve their educational skills of reading and writing with the right help and support.

The event was flagged off in the evening with an awareness drive conducted by the Counseling Cell volunteers and members of the Organization. Informative brochures and posters, made by the volunteers, about importance of special education and ways of overcoming the issues faced by these students and parents alike were put on display at the venue. The volunteers present at the spot wore Red, the color of dyslexia awareness.

Dr. Pooja Kalra who has worked with students with dyslexia in her Special Education Academy and the parents of children with dyslexia shared their experiences and stories of successful transitions of these students from school to college as independent fully functioning adults.

The volunteers of the counselling cell played an active role in spreading awareness regarding measures of dealing with dyslexia. Further, all volunteers were given the task to spread the message of this awareness campaign amidst the community by talking personally to five people each, from their family and friends.

The community gave a positive response by actively engaging with the students and trying to understand the ways of supporting the children with dyslexia.

The Principal, Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of the KCW Counselling Cell in spreading awareness about such an important but neglected issue of dyslexia in students.
