KCW Synapse-the college community club organised a two day public awareness drive to mark the World Suicide Prevention day. On the day one ,the counselling cell of the college arranged a lecture by a consultant psychologist ,Palak Jain, from Fortis Hospital ,Ludhiana. The second day activities comprised of spreading this valuable and life saving information amongst the community .The student volunteers from the Dept of Psychology distributed informative leaflets. Further, the club members formed a human chain in the formation of alphabet “S’’ and marked a cross over it signifying their campaign slogan “SAY NO TO SUICIDE”.

SWACHHTA PAKHWADA (1ST TO 15TH, SEPTEMBER, 2017) : CARE FOR THE SURROUNDINGS
NSS Unit of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana visited slum area at Fauji Mohalla near bus stand on September 9, 2017 under the ”Swachhta Pakhwada Campaign” to explain the concept of cleanliness. The motive behind this was to spread swachhta awareness so that they can take care of their sanitation and personal hygiene. Volunteers interacted with the people and explained them how and where they can dispose their waste and also distributed soaps to them.

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana counseling cell organized a thought providing community mental health drive against suicide. The three day drive was inaugurated by an enlighting lecture by Ms. Palak Jain consultant psychologist from Fortis hospital. The participants of the drive included all the hostel wardens of college and all the senior tutors along with student volunteer from the department of Psychology, sociology and KCW Synapse, the college community club.
The highlight of the programme was the fact that the participants would ensure that the deliberations on the topic would not remain confined to the walls of the seminar hall but would reach as many ears as possible as a part of community mental health drive.
Ms. Palak highlighted the increasing instance of suicide rate and delved into the casual factor and the need to take urgent measures to prevent the loss of innocent valuable lives.
She also elaborated on the recent trend of self mutilating and destructive internet sensation like blue whale game and so on. She attempted to shed light on preventive measures for friends, parents and primary caretakers to recognize early warning signs in an influenced individual.
The students and teachers found the topic very enlightening and interacted enthusiastically with the speaker in order to resolve their queries.
Commerce Society “ Inspira-2017” organised to explore the creative talent of the students
Post graduate department of Commerce, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized “Inspira-2017” on September 8, 2017 to explore the creative talent of the students.The event focused on creating a platform for students to showcase their creativity and to display academic knowledge through innovative ideas. The students of B. Com and M.com exhibited their ideas on the topics such as Principles & practices of Management, GST, Banking, Branding and Entrepreneurship. Besides the subject boards, students also prepared boards on famous management gurus. The topics were presented very meticulously by the participants and best idea generator class was awarded. The events were adjudged by faculty on the basis of parameters like knowledge, creativity and presentation. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill, appreciated the efforts of department and encouraged that such activities should be organized in future too, in order to enhance confidence and overall personality of the students.
EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO RADIO STATION
The Functional English Deptt. Of KCW civil lines Ludhiana organized an educational field trip to AIR FM Gold channel Ludhiana for the students of Radio Journalism. The students had an interactive session with the studio Incharge Mr. Navdeep singh and the technical staff. He apprised the students of the various aspects of Radio Journalism. The students also got an opportunity to attend the live programmes titled Home sweet Home and Udaan with RJ Maninder. They also learnt about the process of writing for radio as well as the handling and operation of technical equipments used in Radio Broadcast.
The principal Dr. Mukti Gill congratulated the students and encouraged the staff to organize more of educational trips for the students.
INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY AT KCW
Legal Literacy Club of Khalsa College for Women,Civil lines,Ludhiana celebrated International Literacy Day on 8th september,2017. Mehak Soni ,Vice President of the club delivered a an informative speech on’ Legal Aid Clinics and Accessibility’. The students were also made aware that UNESCO officially proclaimed 8th sept. as International Literacy Day to actively mobilise the International Community and to promote literacy as an instrument to empower individuals, communities and societies. This year International Literacy Day is celebrated accross the world under the theme “Literacy in Digital World.”
To commermorate this important day, Poster Making Competition was also organised by the club where students showcased their talent by making posters on Child Abuse, Menace of Drugs, Sexual Harassement and Cyber Crime. 1st prize was bagged by Shubhra, 2nd prize Gurdeep & Nidhi, 3rd prize Naina & Nikita and Consolation prize by Sugandha.
The Principal of the college Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of the incharge Dr. Khushdip kaur and the club members for taking the initiative of spreading legel awareness.
KCW ORGANISES Seminar on “ Making of Future Leaders”
Post Graduate department of commerce, Khalsa college for women, civil lines, Ludhiana organised seminar on “Making of Future Leaders” on September 4, 2017. Mr. Tarun Kumar , Assistant Professor, University Business School, Panjab University Regional Centre ,Ludhiana interacted with the students on inter-personal skills, dynamic leadership and shared his life story of how he faced all odds and achieved the position he is at today. The seminar also focused on confidence building, effective management in all spheres of life, how to increase concentration and how to live a career committed life. The seminar was attended by around 450 students of UG and PG classes. The students enjoyed the high energy interactive session. Principal of the college Dr. Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of the department and said the basic aim of organising such motivational seminars is to enlighten the students with the new ways of enriching and enhancing their communication skills.
INTER-CLASS QUIZ COMPETITION
The Department of Economics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana Organized an Inter-class Quiz competition on 5th September 2017.Five Teams with four students in each Team participated in the Quiz. The objective of the competition was to provide students with the opportunity to build and test their analytical skills and levels of competency in the field of economics and general knowledge. The quiz was comprised of two rounds; first round covered different fields of Economics like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International economics and Indian economy. Second round covered the areas of Static G.K and Current Affairs related to the field of Economics. The Winners of the competition were Manpreet, Navya, Meenakshi & Tejasvi from Team-A. First Runners-up were Gunjan, Deepkamal, Gunjan & chanchal from Team-B and Second Runners-up were Komalpreet, Ayushi, Sakshi & Seema from Team-C. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and Vice-Principal Mrs. Sumedha Wadhwa gave away the prizes to the winners. Principal Madam applauded the efforts of the Department and stressed on the need of conducting more such activities to provide the students an in-depth knowledge of the subject.
National nutrition week at KCW
Department of Home Science of Khalsa College For Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated National Nutrition Week on 5th Sept, 2017 by organising Inter Class Cooking Competition of Snacks and Mocktails. Around 25 students participated in the competition and prepared delicious dishes. The judges of the day were Mrs. Vibha Jain from History dept., Mrs. Dalbir Kaur from Fashion Designing dept., Ms. Leena Samuel & Mrs. Meenu Mahajan from Fine Arts dept. Prize winners of the day were Riya Beri stood 1st, Sakshi Malhotra stood 2nd, Simar stood 3rd and Mehar Jain won the consolation prize. Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill encouraged the staff members & students for such great efforts and laid emphasis on healthy eating habits.

A student social responsibility awareness drive was organized in Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines Ludhiana. KCW SYNAPSE, the dynamic community club of the college speared this innovative drive. The Principal Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill inaugurated the exhibitive display put up by the club members. City entrepreneur, Mrs. Mridula Jain, Chairperson Shingora Shawls, along with Sardarni Sarbrinder Kaur, Manager, Khalsa College also visited the display and applauded the initiative of the students and inspired them to work for the community.
The elaborate exposition detailed the concept of social responsibility and the fact that it was the most important duty of every individual. Further, a plethora of options were displayed to enthuse students with the spirit of social commitment and to inculcate good citizenry values in them.
The enrolled volunteers were given the ceremonial t-shirts to initiate their enterprising endeavor for sensitization of youth towards social responsibility.
