KCW ORGANISES Seminar on “ Making of Future Leaders”

Post Graduate department of commerce, Khalsa college for women, civil lines, Ludhiana organised seminar on “Making of Future Leaders” on September 4, 2017. Mr. Tarun Kumar , Assistant Professor, University Business School, Panjab University Regional Centre ,Ludhiana  interacted with the students on inter-personal skills, dynamic leadership and shared his life story of how he faced all odds and achieved the position he is at today. The seminar also focused on confidence building, effective management in all spheres of life, how to increase concentration and how to live a career committed life. The seminar was attended by around 450 students of UG and PG classes. The students enjoyed the high energy interactive session. Principal of the college Dr. Mukti Gill appreciated the efforts of the department and said the basic aim of organising such motivational seminars is to enlighten the students with the new ways of enriching and enhancing their communication skills.

INTER-CLASS QUIZ COMPETITION

The Department of Economics of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana Organized an Inter-class Quiz competition on 5th September 2017.Five Teams with four students in each Team participated in the Quiz. The objective of the competition was to provide students with the opportunity to build and test their analytical skills and levels of competency in the field of economics and general knowledge. The quiz was comprised of two rounds; first round covered different fields of Economics like Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International economics and Indian economy. Second round covered the areas of Static G.K and Current Affairs related to the field of Economics. The Winners of the competition were Manpreet, Navya, Meenakshi & Tejasvi from Team-A. First Runners-up were Gunjan, Deepkamal, Gunjan & chanchal from Team-B and Second Runners-up were Komalpreet, Ayushi, Sakshi & Seema from Team-C. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill and Vice-Principal Mrs. Sumedha Wadhwa gave away the prizes to the winners. Principal Madam applauded the efforts of the Department and stressed on the need of conducting more such activities to provide the students an in-depth knowledge of the subject.

National nutrition week at KCW

Department of Home Science of Khalsa College For Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana celebrated National Nutrition Week on 5th Sept, 2017 by organising Inter Class Cooking Competition of Snacks and Mocktails. Around 25 students participated in the competition and prepared delicious dishes. The judges of the day were Mrs. Vibha Jain from History dept., Mrs. Dalbir Kaur from Fashion Designing dept., Ms. Leena Samuel & Mrs. Meenu Mahajan from Fine Arts dept. Prize winners of the day were Riya Beri stood 1st, Sakshi Malhotra stood 2nd, Simar stood 3rd and Mehar Jain won the consolation prize. Dr. (Mrs) Mukti Gill encouraged the staff members & students for such great efforts and laid emphasis on healthy eating habits.

“ENTHUSING STUDENTS WITH THE SPIRIT OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.”

A student social responsibility awareness drive was organized in Khalsa College for Women, Civil lines Ludhiana. KCW SYNAPSE, the dynamic community club of the college speared this innovative drive. The Principal Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill inaugurated the exhibitive display put up by the club members. City entrepreneur, Mrs. Mridula Jain, Chairperson Shingora Shawls, along with Sardarni Sarbrinder Kaur, Manager, Khalsa College also visited the display and applauded the initiative of the students and inspired them to work for the community.

The elaborate exposition detailed the concept of social responsibility and the fact that it was the most important duty of every individual. Further, a plethora of options were displayed to enthuse students with the spirit of social commitment and to inculcate good citizenry values in them.

The enrolled volunteers were given the ceremonial t-shirts to initiate their enterprising endeavor for sensitization of youth towards social responsibility.

LEGAL AWRENESS DRIVE ON CYBER CRIME AND CHILD ABUSE BY KCW

Legal  literacy club of Khalsa College for Women , Civil Lines , Ludhiana organized an awareness drive on Cyber Crime and Child Abuse on 6,September,2017 under the Triadic Development Programme –Project Sashakt. The members of the club organized the drive in Khalsa Girls Senior Secondary School, civil lines, where they interacted with the students with the basic purpose of disseminating legal aid information to victims of sexual, physical, psychological and economic acts of violence as well as cyber crimes like cyber pornography, cyber stalking and cyber defammation. The students of school were made aware about these concepts through powerpoint presentations which also focused on the laws of the land that deal with these. The club members familiarized the girls with how and where to file complaints and legal remedies to deal with cyber crimes. Brouchers were also distributed amongst the students for future reference. The principal of college, Dr. (Mrs). Mukti Gill and principal of the school, Ms. Karamjit Kaur along with the students appreciated the efforts made by the legal literacy club to spread useful information about the burning topics in the present day scenario.

KCW HOLDS SAVE ELECTRICITY DRIVE

Physics Society of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana conducted a ‘Save Electricity Drive’ on 6th September, 2017. A musical skit depicting that in day to day life we intentionally or unintentionally waste electricity. So there is an utmost need to save electricity by thinking globally and acting locally. For example shutdown the computer instead of keeping them at sleep mode, during the day switch off the light, on  breezy day don’t use air conditioner, in spite of switching off electrical appliances from remote switch it off from the main socket , remove the charger when mobile phone is fully charged, use LED instead of CFL,  etc. The real power lies in saving the power for upcoming generations. A switch switched off today will generate new switches for tomorrow. Students posted stickers saying “switch it off when not in use” all over the college premises to urge everyone to carry on this notion. Dr. Mrs. Mukti Gill congratulated for the save electricity drive and motivate all to switch off appliances when we are not using them.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES WITH GRIT AND DETERMINATION IS POSSIBLE

Chemistry Department, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized an educational visit to the sewage water treatment plant, Bhattian village. A group of 50 students of B.Sc. II and B.Sc. III accompanied by teachers visited the plant to learn about the procedure and chemical methods adopted to recycle sewage water of Ludhiana city. Sub-divisional engineer (SDE) of the plant, Vijay Kumar and his team members make special efforts to take the students around the plant spread over 90 acres for practically demonstrating each and every step taken towards water treatment. About one-third of the sewage water of Ludhiana city is treated at this unit by UASP method, thereby decreasing the BOD and COD levels of water drastically and ultimately chlorinating the water to make it fit for commercial use.

The students were very excited to learn about the judicious use of methane gas generated during decomposition as duel fuel to operate generators during power failure. They also explained about the possibility of using the large amount of methane gas generated to meet the power consumption requirements of nearby villages. All the queries and questions asked by students were well explained. All the students were motivated to save water and this visit further strengthened the will of the students to join research work so as to use their scientific knowledge in protecting the environment.

Visit to Swami Vivekanand Ashram

Youth Red Cross (YRC) unit Of Khalsa College For Women,Civil Lines, Ludhiana Visited Senior Citizen home of Swami Vivekanand Ashram, Model Town Extension, Ludhiana on 4/9/2017.

As many as fifty four YRC Volunteers along with two Councellors visited there. The senior member of Ashram received YRC team and guided them to meet senior citizens. YRC volunteers interacted with senior citizens for one hour and also entertained them by telling some jokes so that they feel enlightened. YRC team also contributed some food items into their kitchen. Senior citizens were very happy to meet them. They also shared their life experiences with them. It was great learning experience for Volunteers as they were deeply touched.

Lastly, students were also taken to Meditation pyramid of the Ashram where they learnt about meditation. The Visit was organised to put smile on the faces of senior citizens but volunteers themselves returned with smile of deep satisfaction and spirit to do much for such special category of society.

YRC unit is highly indebted to Madam Principal Mrs. Mukti Gill for providing this opportunity to YRC team.

‘PANACHE 2017’ FRESHERS PARTY AT KCW

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a magnificent fresher’s welcome party, “PANACHE 2017” for the 1st year students on 18th August 2017 in the college campus. The programme commenced with the welcome of the Chief Guest.

Jovial Smiles and high spirits marked the welcome party for the students. The party manifested youth and enthusiasm at its full flow. The ecstasy filled event gave the freshers an opportunity to showcase their talent and also a platform to interact with their seniors. The event saw many dazzling Performances by both seniors and juniors alike. The programme Kick-Started with ramp walk in which many contestants vied for the Miss Fresher’s 2017 title. The contest included several rounds including ramp walk and question answer round which wave magic of fun & joy into the event.

Miss Vanshika Pasriche won Miss Fresher’s, title besides there were six other titles accorded to the students. Mahima won the 1st Runner up and the 2nd Runner up title went to Yeshima Vij. The title of Miss Beautiful Smile was given to Harmeet Kaur. Harshita  was crowned  Miss Charming. Kriti Jain won the title for best attire & Priyanka took away the title for best walk.

In the masters category Simran Brar was crowned Miss Fresher with Kritika and Shivani first and second runner up respectively.

The Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill blessed the students and encouraged them to work hard to achieve their endeavours. Finally the programme ended on a musical note, leaving behind memories to cherish forever.
